Regional Work Packages

Regional work packages break down major contracts, creating opportunities for local and Indigenous businesses to contribute through tailored, capability-aligned work.

Overview

Regional work packages are segments of major project contracts that are broken down to create opportunities for local suppliers. These packages allow regional and Indigenous businesses to participate in supply chains by delivering clearly defined scopes of work aligned with their capabilities.

Each major project takes a different approach to structuring work packages. Some simplify procurement by using fewer, larger contracts, while others actively break down packages to increase local engagement. Many projects include requirements for Tier 1 contractors to subcontract locally or prioritise regional and Indigenous participation.

For regional businesses, understanding how work packages are structured and what is expected is essential. It allows them to prepare targeted responses, align with procurement frameworks, and demonstrate readiness to deliver. Working with platforms like ICN Gateway and the Local Buying Program (C-Res) is often part of this process.
